Client: Terumo (via Blueoneforty)

Role: Storyboard, Design, Motion Design / Animation

The Challenge

The objective was to create two distinct animations, one for the standard detachment process and one for a "sticky" or incomplete detachment, of the WEB aneurysm embolization device. The primary challenge was effectively visualising a complex, high-stakes medical procedure that required rigorous technical accuracy. Navigating detailed feedback cycles to ensure the mechanical and thermal processes were depicted correctly, while adhering to strict regulatory language and branding guidelines, was central to the project's success.

The Solution

  • Iterative Storyboarding: Worked through multiple rounds of detailed storyboards to translate complex R&D visual concepts into clear, step-by-step motion graphics.

  • Technical Precision: Collaborated closely with the agency team to refine key mechanical elements, including the heater coil, overcoil, tether, and coupler dynamics, ensuring the visual representation aligned with the medical device's physical function.

  • Branding & Asset Integration: Seamlessly integrated the client’s provided brand assets, including specific color palettes, Univers typography, and product boilerplate slides, ensuring the final output met all visual standards.

  • Feedback & Refinement: Managed complex revisions involving technical changes to the detachment mechanism and VO script adjustments, maintaining a quick turnaround to meet the client’s regulatory sign-off schedule.

Outcome

The collaboration resulted in two polished, high-fidelity explainer videos that effectively communicated the WEB detachment process. Both animations were successfully approved by the client and regulatory bodies, providing a clear and professional visual resource for the medical device's end-users.
